Synopsis
An adaptation from George Calderon's translation of the classic Chekhovian drama by Harvard Professor and Director Robert Brustein.
Irina, a middle-aged, fading actress; Trigorin, a moderately popular author who realizes that he has failed in his aspirations to greatness, and Irina's muddled and melancholy son, Comstantin, a budding playwright who is lovesick over beautiful wouldbe actress Nina.
Enchanted by the older Trigorin and obsessed with her dreams theatrical, Nina follows him to Moscow where she bears child by him and becomes a frustrated dilettante.
Two years later, when deserted by Trigorin, Nina returns and again rejects Constantin's proclamations of love, the bereft young man careens to a sudden and tragic end.
