Why Teachers Go Nuts
Preston Powell
In an insane asylum, we find a number of lady schoolteachers who have lost their mental balance trying to educate their pupils!
This play starts hilariously when the ladies talk and act like their former charges.
A love story is introduced with the visit of the niece of the superintendent and a young staff doctor, but each thinks the other is an inmate.
The niece thinks she would like to be a teacher, but after witnessing the antics of schoolteachers she decides to marry the young doctor.
Recommended for churches, schools, community groups, and teachers everywhere!
Character

Nurse Jones An impatient, demanding sort of person who will never get used to the antics of the patients. Older than Miss Smith.
Art Teacher Tall, dark woman who takes her work very seriously. In a perpetual feud with the Music Teacher.
Music Teacher Large, heavy-chested woman with great and powerful lungs which are used frequently.
History Teacher Dramatic, nervous, erratic woman.
Principal Serious, never forgets that she is the Principal. She is pompous and bigoted.
English Teacher A joyful person during playtime but is serious when teaching. The chief comedy part.
Gym Teacher Preferably a large woman, very dynamic with an abundance of energy who forces her way through life. She is also very coy and bashful during scenes with Dr. Sullivan.
Doctor Van The leading man, nice-looking, kind and jovial.
Mr. Arthur A man about forty-five or fifty; rather dignified, and inclined to be an "I-told-you'so" type, but still likable.
Florence Ware A petite and chic young woman-not dumb, but never quite knowing just what everything is all about in this asylum.
Doctor Sullivan A dandified and pompous man of forty-five or fifty. Always maintains an air of dignity, until he gets the opportunity of trying one of his theories.
Nurse Smith A kindly, good-natured person, rather young.
