Synopsis

Toro is back in Madrid hanging out with his high school friends, Juan and Andrea (and Juan’s dying golden retriever, Tica).

They spend their weekends exactly like they used to: chain-smoking pitis in Juan’s garage, listening to Juan’s latest DJ mix, and going out to pijo clubs around Madrid.

But something’s not quite right.

As sexual tensions emerge and old power dynamics get challenged, these third culture kids struggle to grow up, take responsibility and find a version of reality to believe in.

Press Reviews

"Critic’s Pick! Tejera’s play…rests on unraveling the uneasy dynamic between the three characters, and on the meticulousness with which the playwright renders the petty signifiers in their world…These acute character details create a rich triptych of the ails of a social milieu that’s precise in stroke, impressionistic in structure.” – The New York Times“Danny Tejera’s cleverly unsettling play establishes itself at a frequency that will always be slightly out of phase with reality. Tejera has written something hyperspecific yet malleable and reflective of his characters’ particularly comfortable and alienating circumstances."

Tica

a golden retriever, 80+ in dog years. Played by the same actor who plays Carl. These characters were written with flexibility in mind. Their cultural identities are malleable and amorphous, so it feels wrong to be overly prescriptive about who can play them. Depending on who you cast, you should change certain lines accordingly. As an ensemble, the cast should authentically approximate the diverse international community the characters belong to. Please also consider what story you are telling based on the actors you cast.
