The Tomorrow Box
Anne Chislett
In this profoundly moving and sympathetic play, Mr. Barry has written a genuine love story.
He tells of a sensitive young woman married to a pleasant, well-meaning man and living in a college town in the midwest.
To the college comes Nicholas Hay, lecturer, psychologist, and above all an understanding and attractive man who falls in love with Eve Redman.
For a while Eve has "the illusion of being alive," but she is unable to go with Dr. Hay when he leaves.
Years later she sends for him to help cure her little son who has met with an accident.
Again he would have her leave with him, but she cannot.
He goes, taking with him the knowledge that her son is his and that he leaves behind a spiritually complete woman.
"A play wrought handsomely in the author's best powers."
