The Antigone in Warsaw

Highlights

One Act 40 mins Unit Set/Multiple Settings

Synopsis

On the eve of the Nazi invasion in 1939, a shabby theater company (where Christians, Jews and non-believers work together) struggles to stage a timeless drama of political resistance.

A young actress and the aging director she adores first strive to hold the troupe together; then she must "fail" him to disperse them to safety.

Chilling, yet with touches of warm humor, this drama with six strong portrait roles has been twice a contest winner: First Prize at the Dubuque Fine Arts Festival and Third Prize at the Little Theater of Alexandria, Virginia One-Act Contest.

The characters' ages range from 19 to 65, but the play is appropriate for high school as well as mature casts.
