Born a farmer's daughter, Millie has longed for an education.

In a weak moment Millie consents to become his wife.

It is then that she encounters a strange woman who tells Millie that Mulberry is already married, and he is merely laying a trap for her.

Millie, realizing the peril of her position, returns to the farm.

But alas, Mulberry appears on the scene suddenly, and he proceeds to make life intolerable for the farmer's daughter.

Characters

Character
Aunt Sally Spivens

A short, stout woman of uncertain years. She is the typical farmer woman. She wheezes a great deal, as though troubled with asthma, and speaks in high, nasal tones.

Millie Spivens

An attractive and charming girl of twenty. She is refined in manner and appearance and possesses a most refreshing personality. There is about her the air of a martyr.

Osgood Smithers

A tall, broad shouldered, athletic-appearing chap in his early twenties. Although his voice is high pitched and wavery, he speaks in a romantic manner except when he is moved by anger, and then he becomes extremely melodramatic. His manner with Millie denotes shyness.

Alice Smith

A sweet innocent girl of eighteen. Her speech and manner are decidedly demure and it is obvious that she is well bred and refined.

Mulberry Foxhall

A typical stage villain. In his early thirties, tall and dark, he is suave and polished in manner. A large, exaggerated black mustache covers his upper lip and hangs down on each side of his mouth.

Harvey Smith

A tall, well-built man in his early fifties. He is the prosperous banker type, dignified and austere.

Lydia Smith

A tall, think, aristocratic-appearing woman in her late forties. She is refined in manner and bearing. Although she is inclined to be snobbish, she is devoted to her daughter, Alice, and thinks constantly of the latter's welfare.

Mrs. Ella Smithers

A tall, powerfully build woman in her early fifties. Although her face and manner proclaims her to be stern and severe, she has a kind heart and is devoted to her son. Operates Ye Open Inn.
