Donald Davoren and Seamas Shields are roommates in a Dunblin tenement.
For no particular reason Donald is looked upon by the other residents of the tenement as a gunman in the service of the Irish Republican Party, but he is merely a dreaming poet who rather enjoys the mystery that has built up around him.
A Republican calls on the two and leaves with them a bag containing bombs.
The house is raided by the authorities and Minnie Powell, a friend, takes the bag to her room thinking they will not search her.
But the deed is discovered and Minnie, trying to resist arrest, is shot.(
