Russet Mantle
by Lynn Riggs

Russet Mantle

Synopsis

Produced on Broadway.

This gay and exhilarating new comedy deals with the difficulties youth faces today in trying to find a stance in a specially hazardous and shaken world.

If he accepts the standards that have defeated his elders, he himself is ruined; if he lives in the world that is his own time, he will encounter the extra woes the time is heir to.

At the end of the play, the two young people have the courage to face the world "the way it is," instead of escaping, as they so easily might, into "some respectable backwater."

Robert Benchley calls Russet Mantle a "comedy of superlative quality."

A sophisticated play for mature groups
