Synopsis

Young David Armstrong misses his mother.

Following her death, he now lives alone in their North Country house, a devoted member of the Salvation Army.

His estranged father Thomas, a coarse philanderer, reappears uninvited and unwanted.

David meets an attractive barmaid Bess and persuaded by him to take a vacant room in the house, she becomes involved with Thomas as the volatile situation comes to a head.
