Paul Vincent Carroll was born in County Louth, Ireland, in 1900. His plays include the one-act THE WATCHED POT; THE THINGS THAT ARE CAESAR'S; COGGERERS; SHADOW AND SUBSTANCE, which was the winner of the Casement Award and the New York Drama Critics Circle Award; THE WHITE STEED, premiered in New York, where it won the Drama Critics Circle Award; KINDRED (revised as THE SECRET KINDRED); THE STRINGS MY LORD ARE FALSE; THE OLD FOOLISHNESS; THE WISE HAVE NOT SPOKEN; and THE CHUCKEYHEAD STORY (revised as THE DEVIL CAME FROM DUBLIN). His screenplays include “Saints and Sinners.” He settled in Kent, U.K., in the 1940s and died there in 1968.
