Louis O. Coxe was born in 1918 in Manchester, New Hampshire. He was educated at St. Paul’s School in Concord, Massachusetts, and received his B.A. from Princeton University before serving in the Naval Reserve during World War II. Coxe was married, began his teaching career, and published his first book, “The Sea Faring and Other Poems,” in 1946. Some of his later books include “The Second Man and Other Poems,” “Wilderness and Other Poems,” “The Middle Passage,” “Nikal Seyn, Decoration Day: A Poem and a Play,” “Passage: Selected Poems 1943-1978,” and “The North Well.” Coxe wrote the play BILLY BUDD, published by Dramatists Play Service, Inc. Louis Coxe died in 1993.
