Frank Crocitto was born in New York during the Depression, of second-generation Italian parents. His father, a compositor, his mother a teacher; they moved from Staten Island to Brooklyn when the boy was four. After he finished college, he moved to Manhattan and embarked upon a playwriting career. Titles include AN ANGEL VISITS WARPOST, BEHOLD THE MAN: PART 1, THE BRIDE COMES TO YELLOW SKY, A FIELD WHERE SHADOWS FALL, O FATHOMLESS LOVE, SLEEP NEFERTITI SLEEP, SPEAK OF THE DEVIL, and A FLORENTINE TRAGEDY. He is also the author of several radio plays and books of poetry. He continues to teach, give public talks, write and direct plays, and publish his work.
