Irish novelist and playwright Edna O’Brien was born in Tuamgraney, County Clare, Ireland, in 1930. Her plays focus on the inner strivings of women and the relationships they have with men. Many of O’Brien’s books have been banned in her native Ireland due to their sexual nature. She is perhaps best known for her novels published as “The Country Girls Trilogy” and her biography of James Joyce. Recognition of her talent was awarded in the form of a Kingsley Amis Award in 1962 and a Los Angeles Book Prize in 1990. O’Brien was married to Czech author Ernest Gelber, who died in 1998. They have two sons. O’Brien currently lives and works in London. Her play TRIPTYCH is published by Dramatists Play Service, Inc.
