Deborah Pryor has had productions of her plays at Ensemble Studio Theatre, Arena Stage Theatre, the Hudson Guild Theatre, the Actors Theatre of Louisville Humana Festival for New Plays, and the Virginia Stage Company. She is a recipient of an NEA Playwriting Fellowship grant (1986). BRIAR PATCH garnered the Charles MacArthur Award for Outstanding New Play in 1990 and the Nicholl Fellowship in Screenwriting in 1989. She also received the Mary Roberts Rinehart Award for BURRHEAD in 1987, an Honorable Mention in the FDG/CBS New Plays Program Award for WETTER THAN WATER in 1985, and was a runner-up in the Arnold Weissberger Competition (for BRIAR PATCH, 1988). The playwright has been published in "The Best Short Plays of 1988," (THE LOVE TALKER) and BURRHEAD and WETTER THAN WATER were published in Theatre Communiction Group’s "Plays-in-Process" in 1984 and 1987. She received an M.F.A. in Playwriting from the University of Iowa and was a literary intern at Arena Stage Theatre in Washington, DC. She is a member of the Playwrights’ Unit in Washington, DC, and joined New Dramatists in 1990.
