Dave Freeman was born in London in 1922. After serving in the Royal Navy, he spent five years in the Metropolitan Police before becoming a journalist. He began writing for television in 1953 devising series and working with many of the top comedians of the time such as Tommy Cooper, Benny Hill, Arthur Askey, Frankie Howerd and Sid James. His credits include over 200 television situation comedies and plays, award-winning series of television commercials, and film scripts for Rocket to the Moon, Bless This House, Carry on Behind and Carry on Columbus.
