Barbara Schneider is a prolific female playwright. In 1986, Philadelphia Festival Theater opened its third season of new American plays with a portfolio of six one-acts, including one by Schneider. She was guest dramatist at the Berlin University of the Arts. She studied with Ed Bullins at the New York Shakespeare Festival Writer's Unit and Cherry Lane Theater Mentor project. She was a member of Ensemble Studio Theatre, New York. She conceived of, developed, and directed: GEGENWIND (“CROSS-CURRENTS”) for the State Theatre of Dresden/Germany. IN FAHRT (“ON THE MOVE”) for the City Theatre of Leipzig/Germany (1998). She was a Teacher and Workshop Leader at Young Playwrights, Inc., New York (1985–1995) and has taught seminars and classes at theaters and schools around the country. Her plays include VERDICT ON THE SHOOTING OF A POLICE OFFICER (Washington Square Church), TURTLES (New York Shakespeare Festival), DETAILS WITHOUT A MAP (winner of the Susan Smith Blackburn Prize), CROSSINGS (National Public Radio), FIGHT LINES (Actors Theater of Louisville), TURBULENCE (Philadelphia Festival Theater), and ECHO-LOCATION (Circle Rep).
