Part - Time After School Counselors

Kids Club at PS 29 in Brooklyn is looking for staff to add to our after school team! This is a great opportunity to gain experience working with children from PreK to 5th grade. PS 29’s Kids Club is a scheduled, supervised aftercare program with a snack, active play, and a variety of age-appropriate enrichment activities and games. Primary responsibilities of the Counselors include ensuring the safety of Kids Club participants, managing student behavior, communicating with parents and program supervisors, and tracking attendance.
PS 29 PLUS KIDS CLUB COUNSELOR JOB DESCRIPTION
Overview:
Counselors in our Kids Club program are critical to our after school program’s success in providing safe, enriching and affordable childcare to the PS29 Community. Our counselors are actively engaging with the children, creating a warm, fun environment, and have a team mindset. The counselors are the primary caregivers to the students and interact with parents at pick up and when necessary.
Roles & Responsibilities:
Ensure the safety and well-being of each child by responding to their emotional, social,
and physical needs
Engage with children in developmentally appropriate activities and play
Provide structure and accountability in a compassionate fashion
Maintain a professional demeanor and promote values of PS 29 PLUS at all times. Be a positive role model for all counselor staff and children.
Be warm and nurturing with children
Monitor students in a variety of settings (e.g. classroom, yard, cafeteria, etc.)
Set up activity areas as needed, and maintain an organized, tidy environment
Assist children with homework completion
Minimum Requirements:

High school diploma or GED required, college degree is strongly preferred

Current CPR and First Aid certifications strongly preferred

Exceptional patience and ability to remain calm at all times

Excellent listening skills and an engaging demeanor

Creativity, compassion, and professionalism are a must

Fun and enthusiastic attitude

Willing to sing, dance, and “be silly” with the children

Physically able to perform tasks, including sitting on the floor, bending, standing and being outside with the children in the playground.
Kids Club hours are 2:30-6:00 Monday-Friday. Full-week availability is preferred but not required. Interviews will be Sept 2nd in person.
Starting salary will be determined based on experience, with a minimum of $20/hour.
