Position Summary
The Knox School seeks a dynamic, versatile, and collaborative Music Teacher to lead our choral and instrumental music programs. The ideal candidate can play the piano, direct the Knox choir and can inspire students across various skill levels and collaborate across departments to enhance the school’s vibrant arts program.
This full-time position includes residential responsibilities, providing on-campus private housing in exchange for dorm parent duties.
Key Responsibilities
● Choral & Keyboard Instruction: Direct and conduct student vocal ensembles and choir programs; provide piano accompaniment for school events, rehearsals, and performances.
● Musical Direction: Collaborate closely with the Theatre Director as the Musical Director for the annual Spring Musical (vocal coaching, pit band/accompaniment). ● Ensemble & Program Management: Lead and instruct student ensembles, with the potential to direct the school Rock Band and coordinate the campus private lesson program based on candidate skill set.
● Curriculum & Pedagogy: Design and deliver engaging music curricula tailored to a diverse college-preparatory student body.
● Residential Life Duties: Serve as a Dorm Parent under the direction of the Director of Residential Life, supervising evening/weekend duties, supporting residential students, and contributing to the campus community.
Qualifications & Requirements
● Education: Bachelor’s degree in Music, Music Education, Vocal Performance, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
● Technical Proficiency: Exceptional piano accompaniment skills and proven vocal/choral instruction experience.
● Collaborative Spirit: Experience in musical theatre production and pit/vocal direction. ● Versatility: Proficiency or strong interest in modern band ensembles (Rock Band) and private lesson coordination is a plus.
● Residential Readiness: Ability and enthusiasm to live on campus, manage dorm responsibilities, and mentor residential students.
