The Selkie Bride by Regan Hicks’ is a folktale musical based on the Celtic and Norse stories of Selkies; mythological creatures who can change between seal and human form. As the stories are told, human men steal the seal pelts from Selkies, forcing them to be their brides on land. This story is a timeless tale about women’s strength through constraint, leaving unquestionable impact through music and story.

Seeking Performers for THE SELKIE BRIDE @ Spark Theatre Festival this November.

This production falls under the Equity Showcase code. Equity & Non-Equity performers both welcome to audition.


SEEKING

MAIRI - 20s, female-identifying. A young selkie exploring the world of man for the first time. She gets trapped on a remote island in the midst of a storm and is desperate to find her lost seal fur and return back home to the sea. Curious. Kind. Hopeful. Mezzo. Vocal range: G3-C5. CAST


LIGHTHOUSE KEEPER/CIARAN - 20s, male-identifying. The lighthouse keeper of Star Island who rescues Mairi from the storm. He is a lonely, isolated man who is desperate for companionship. Guarded. Mournful. Desperate. Baritone. Vocal range: B2-F#4


LASSA - 20s, female-identifying. A young selkie exploring land for the first time. She gets captured by a human man and quickly learns how dangerous they can be. Adventurous. Fun-loving. Confident. Mezzo-High Belter. Vocal range: A3-E5


KILLIAN - 30s, male-identifying. The mayor of Star Island. He is desperate to help his community thrive and is willing to do whatever it takes. Cynical. Stubborn. Possessive. Baritone. Vocal range: A2-F#4, option to G4.


STORYTELLER/BRIGID - 30s, female-identifying. The teacher of Star Island. She is Killian’s younger sister and is worried that he is abusing his political power. She also acts as the narrator of the story. Wise. Patient. Maternal. Alto/Mezzo. Vocal range: G3-D5. Lilting/vocal flipping a plus.


MOTHER/WOMAN - 40s, female-identifying. Mairi’s caring and a bit overprotective mother. She has scars from her past that have never fully healed. She wants to protect Mairi from making the same mistakes that she made in her youth. Protective. Caring. Mournful. Soprano.

SELKIE MAN/MAN- 20s, male-identifying. Plays the various men we encounter on land and in sea. Tenor.

Rehearsals run through the month of November.

PERFORMANCE- November, 22nd @ 7pm at 28th St Theatre.


PAYMENT

$100 stipend + MTA travel reimbursement.
