Breakdown

SONGS FOR A NEW WORLD

WaterTower Theatre is dedicated to diversity and inclusion as a core value, and as such we strongly encourage actors of all ethnicities and gender identities to submit. In reference to the character descriptions — most characters we encounter currently are on the binary and are written with he/him or
she/her pronouns and you will see that in the following descriptions. But however limiting the descriptions are, our casting seeks to be as inclusive as possible and we invite gender non conforming, genderqueer, transgender and non-binary actors to submit for the roles they most identify with. We will
also list race/ethnicity when specific to the character but are otherwise seeking all races and ethnicities.
Let us know if you have any questions, concerns, or if there are any accommodations we can provide (from language developed by Kevin Kantor and Emily Tarquin from the Actors Theatre of Louisville)

SYNOPSIS: Songs for a New World - It's about one moment. It's about hitting the wall and having to make a choice... or take a stand... or turn around and go back. These are the stories and characters of today, the Songs for a New World. The first musical from Tony Award winner, Jason Robert Brown (Parade, Bridges of Madison County), this moving collection of powerful songs examines life, love and the choices that we make.

Brown transports his audience from the deck of a 1492 Spanish sailing ship to a ledge, 57 stories above Fifth Avenue, to meet a startling array of characters that range from a young man who has determined that basketball is his ticket out of the ghetto to a woman whose dream of marrying rich nabs her the man of her dreams... and a soulless marriage.

NOTE: The roles in Songs for a New World are traditionally identified as Man 1, Man 2, Woman 1, and Woman 2. WaterTower Theatre welcomes performers of all gender identities to audition. Casting will be based on vocal range, storytelling ability, and the needs of the production.

SEEKING:

Man 1: Vocal range: D3–F5

Man 2: Vocal range: F♯2–C5

Woman 1: Vocal range: F♯3–A5

Woman 2: Vocal range: F3–F5
