Breakdown

DOLLY: A TRUE ORIGINAL MUSICAL (Broadway)

SEEKING:

DOLLY PARTON (Female, 40s-50s) The country singer/songwriter superstar in the later stages of her career and serves as the narrator reflecting on her life. She is wise, witty, warm, and deeply charismatic, with a sharp sense of humor. Embraces her signature style. Must be an excellent singer.

DOLLY (Female, 20s) The star in the early stages of her career on her journey to stardom. Ambitious, resilient, and full of heart, she is a dreamer with a quick wit and an infectious sense of humor. We witness her determination as she learns to conquer the world beyond the Smoky Mountains and faces the challenges of the music industry. Must be an excellent singer.

LITTLE DOLLY (Female, 10-12 years old) The precocious, imaginative, and fearless younger version of Dolly. She is curious and full of life, with a natural ability to entertain. Comes from humble beginnings of a family of 12 children from the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee. Must be an excellent singer.

PORTER WAGONER (Male, late 30s-40s) One of the most successful and beloved country music stars of his time -- and a mentor to Dolly. Porter is charming, confident, and slightly old-fashioned, provides both opportunities and obstacles in Dolly’s early career. He has a larger-than-life personality with an underlying complexity. Strong singer.

CARL DEAN (Male, late 30s-early 40s) Carl Dean is Dolly’s love interest and eventual husband. A grounded and humble Nashville local who provides balance to Dolly’s big dreams. Carl is sweet, understated, and steadfast in his support for Dolly, even when he feels overshadowed by her ambitions. Warm, genuine, tall, handsome, compassionate. Must be a strong singer.

LITTLE JUDY OGLE (Female, 10-12 years old) Little Judy Ogle is a plucky and feisty schoolmate of Little Dolly. Fights off the bullies on her behalf. Playful, strong-willed, and fiercely protective of Little Dolly. Great comedic timing and singing ability.
