Sarah Delany was born in 1889 and is the co-author of the best-selling memoir HAVING OUR SAY: THE DELANY SISTERS’ FIRST 100 YEARS, adaptation published by Dramatists Play Service, Inc. The book was written with her sister Elizabeth Delaney. Sarah, the older of the two, was the first African-American woman ever to be allowed to teach Domestic Science in the state of New York. Delany died on January 25, 1999, in Mount Vernon, New York, at the age of 109.
