Lee Summers is an award-winning actor, director, educator and the conceiver and co-author of From My Hometown. His musical Ella, First Lady of Song won multiple AUDELCO Awards, including Best Musical and Best Director for Summers himself. His musical The Funkentine Rapture, selected by the National Alliance for Musical Theatre, is currently in development for Broadway and directed by James Monroe Iglehart. Summers is a Yip Harburg Fellow and recipient of the Gilman & Gonzalez-Falla Musical Theatre Foundation Commendation. A Bistro Award-winning performer, he appeared in the original Broadway company of Dreamgirls and in the 20th anniversary concert alongside Audra McDonald, Norm Lewis and Billy Porter, and has appeared elsewhere in television and film. Summers holds an MFA from NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and teaches acting at New York University.
