Joe Sutton’s plays include AS IT IS IN HEAVEN, THE BENEFITS OF DOUBT and BLACK MARKET. His work has been produced at the New York Theatre Workshop, Primary Stages, the Actors Theatre of Louisville, The Working Theatre, the Sundance Institute, as well as other theatres around the country and abroad. He is the recipient of playwriting fellowships from the New York State Council on the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts and has for several years been an active member of New Dramatists. His plays have been published by the Theatre Communications Group and the Playwrights’ Press and he has been artist-in-residence at the National Playwrights Colony, Victory Gardens Theatre and Duke University. He recently returned from a year abroad where he assembled an oral history of a small town in Southern Bohemia. Mr. Sutton was born in Manhattan and grew up in Southern California. He now lives in Woodstock, New York, with his wife, Anne, and his son, James.
