Emma Whipday is a writer of books and plays. Her play Shakespeare's Sister (Samuel French, 2016) won the Theatre Royal Haymarket's Masterclass 'Pitch Your Play' Award in 2015, and received its international premiere at the American Shakespeare Center (ASC) in 2016. She has written two Austen adaptations for the ASC - Sense and Sensibility (Samuel French 2017) and Emma - and her play The Defamation of Cicely Lee won the ASC's Shakespeare's New Contemporaries award in 2019. Her short plays have appeared in an Old Vic New Voices showcase and at the Old Vic Tunnels. Emma's plays are regularly performed by drama schools, schools, and amateur groups. Both Shakespeare's Sister and Sense and Sensibility are now published and licensed by Concord Theatricals.
