Winner of the Audience Choice Award and Sold Out Award at the 2025 NYC Fringe Festival, F***ed Up Fairytales makes its Philadelphia Fringe Festival debut as part of Cannonball, one of the festival's premier independent producing hubs. This fast-paced, interactive theatrical adventure reimagines five classic Grimm fairy tales through wildly different genres—from anime action and spy thrillers to slapstick comedy, horror, and film noir. Each night, the audience determines which three stories will be performed, creating a unique experience filled with comedy, improvisation, audience interaction, and theatrical surprises.
We are seeking a versatile, collaborative performer for Track 7 – The Enchanted Creatures (Any Gender, Any Ethnicity, ages 21–50s), portraying The Witch, Rumpelstiltskin, The Wolf, Guard, and a variety of magical creatures. This role is ideal for a strong character actor who enjoys physical storytelling, creating bold characters, improvisation, audience interaction, movement, and fast-paced ensemble work. The performer should have strong vocal characterization skills, be comfortable with choreography and stage combat, and possess confident singing ability, as Rumpelstiltskin performs a jazzy noir-inspired musical number. We proudly cast against traditional gender expectations and encourage performers from all backgrounds to audition. Additional skills such as dance, puppetry, circus arts, juggling, musical instruments, magic, stage combat, or other unique talents are highly valued.
This 21+ production contains adult language, bawdy and sex-positive humor, simulated alcohol consumption, audience interaction, improvisation, and stylized violence. Rising Sun Performance Company maintains a consent-forward rehearsal room led by intimacy-informed directors and supported by a professional fight choreographer.
Schedule: Rehearsals will be held primarily weeknight evenings in New York City from August 6th through September 23 (approximately 10-12 rehearsals), Rehearsal locations will be south Bronx (178th close to the 2 and 5 trains) and Manhattan. There will be additional marketing, company meeting and fundraising events.
Company travel to Philadelphia is scheduled for the evening of Thursday, September 24.
