Makin' It
Cynthia Mercati
Based on the ever popular Makin' It , the musical version takes the life of the high school student and turns it into song, using the monologues in the original play for the lyrics that propel this fast paced musical through both the light and dark days of growing up.
Makin' It , the musical, tackles the same subjects the original play did, such as peer pressure, bullying.
Brooke wants desperately to be the popular girl and sings about it in, "I Want the Dream."
Scott the average kid you see in every high school hallway, has a crush on Brooke, but feels too shy and awkward in his own skin to make a move, revealing his doubts in the song, "Inside Out."
The company, which can be added to or doubled has a few large scale numbers, "Detention Rap" and "A Geeky Kinda Loving."
The first song, "How'm I Gonna Make It," sung by the company, sets the theme for the show, the difficulty of finding yourself in a confusing world.
The lyrics tell it all: "How'm I gonna make it through this year Through these four years Through this day!
How'm I gonna make it and get free Be totally cool But still be me.
How'm I gonna find it, what I need And what I'm here for What can I hope for?"
