The Production
The first-ever theatre adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ internationally acclaimed book and Lionsgate’s motion-picture, The Hunger Games: On Stage opened at Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre in Autumn 2025, adapted by multi award-winning playwright Conor McPherson and directed by Matthew Dunster.
Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled Head of Lighting and Video (LX) with extensive experience in large-scale productions to lead the delivery of all lighting and video elements.. As Head of Lighting and Video, you will be responsible for overseeing the planning, implementation, and execution of complex lighting and video systems. This includes supervising the Deputy Head of Lighting and Video and departmental assistants. The department will also encompass Fire and Smoke Effects.
Key Responsibilities
● Lead the running and maintenance of all Lighting and Video requirements for the production.
● Work closely and collaboratively with all other departments to ensure lighting and video requirements are met.
● Attending all rehearsals, show calls, maintenance calls, get-ins, fit-ups and get-outs as required, including emergency calls in the event of equipment failure or other incident.
● Create, oversee, and teach all plots required to run the show, ensuring sufficient cross-training across the team so that all plots and tracks are covered during holiday or sickness absence.
● Operate lighting and video during rehearsals and performances.
● Carry out other plots as required, including Fire, Smoke, and SFX elements.
● Recruit, supervise, and train members of the department.
● Assist in troubleshooting and maintenance of all LX elements, including LED tiles, set electrics.
● Maintaining robust inspection processes, pre-show check regimes and maintenance reporting, and ensuring escalation of any safety concerns or equipment defects.
Essential Criteria
● Proven and extensive experience managing Lighting and Video on technically complex productions.
● Experience in maintaining large-scale lighting rigs, complex set electrics, and video infrastructure.
● Thorough working knowledge of lighting and video systems, including media servers (e.g. Disguise, Pixera, or similar), video wall systems, and Lighting control desks (e.g. ETC EOS).
● Experience with Fire, Smoke, and Haze effects, as well as special effects operation.
● Comfortable working at height and in fast-paced, collaborative backstage environments.
● Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot under pressure.
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
