An O. Henry Christmas
Howard Burman
"Two heart-warming one-act musicals based on the classic O. Henry stories capture the true spirit of giving: The Gift of the Magi and The Last Leaf.
This holiday favorite is set in turn-of-the-century New York City."--Publisher.

THE DOCTOR Non-singing. A young man in his mid-thirties. He provides narration for the piece, talking directly to the audience as well as stepping into the action. He never leaves the stage, but watches when he is not involved.
SUE Mezzo-Soprano. In her mid to late twenties. She is a sculptor but does commercial art (ad sketches) to make ends meet. She is nurturing and warm, completely devoted ot her friend. The older sister type.
JOHNSY Soprano. In her early or mid-twenties. She is an oil painter whose dream is to travel someday to Italy and paint the Bay of Naples. She is philosophical but sometimes lighthearted and gay. She is smaller than SUE, with fragile features.
BEHRMAN Character Baritone. Over sixty, a failure in art. German. He is always ready to paint his “masterpiece” but so far: an empty canvas. He earns money by posing for artists (like SUE) who can’t afford a professional model. Perhaps he has a long beard. An Imp-satyr, he is always drunk on gin.
