The Production Runaway Entertainment is seeking an experienced Sound No.1 to join the UK tour of The Mousetrap. As the world’s longest-running play embarks on a major national tour, this is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established production and play a key role in delivering the show to the highest standard across the country.
Job Description
As Sound No.1, you will be responsible for operating and maintaining all sound equipment as per the Sound Designers specifications, Live mixing the show consisting of 8 Radio Mics and supervising all aspects of the sound fit up and get out.
Key Responsibilities
● To oversee and manage all aspects of sound within the production, including supervising and controlling all aspects of the sound fit up, show running and get out.
● To operate the sound equipment for each performance
● To attend all load-ins, fit-ups and load-outs as required.
● To ensure all sound equipment is ready for each performance including radio mics and show comms.
● To ensure a daily sound check is completed, checking that all sound equipment is maintained and in safe working order.
● To keep sound reference/cue sheets up to date.
● To be responsible for the safe use of equipment ensuring that codes of practice and current regulations are adhered to and to supervise the local sound crew in the safe operation of all sound equipment.
● To deal with emergency repairs to sound equipment and keep a record of all kit returns during the production run.
● To work collaboratively with other departments to ensure the smooth running of the show.
● To, alongside the LX No1, act as head of department for two tech swings.
● To oversee and assist in the fitting of radio mics on actors
● To carry out all other duties normally associated with the role of Sound No.1 on a tour of a first-class play.
Desirable Criteria
● Prior experience as Sound No.1 in mid to large scale theatre productions.
● The ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues efficiently.
● Ability to adapt work to meet performance requirements.
● Excellent communication skills.
Production Dates
● First Leg Rehearsals commence: 10 August 2026
● Get-in to Birmingham Alexandra Theatre: 30 August 2026
● Technical rehearsals commence: 31 August 2026
● First Performance: 3 September 2026
● Christmas break commences: 7 December 2026
