August Wilson was born in 1945. He is an American playwright whose work explores the heritage and experience of African Americans, decade by decade, over the course of the twentieth century.
Wilson's plays have been produced at regional theaters across the world, and he has received numerous awards, including two Pulitzer Prizes for Drama (Fences and The Piano Lesson) and a Tony Award for Best Play (Jitney).
