The North American Touring Company of Harry Potter and the Cursed Child is seeking a highly collaborative and experienced theater professional to join the production as Resident Director.
The Resident Director plays a critical role in maintaining the artistic integrity, storytelling, direction, and energy of the touring production. Working closely with the creative, management, and production teams, the Resident Director serves as a steward of the original vision established by Director John Tiffany, with the tour directed by Des Kennedy, and the creative team while supporting the ongoing artistic excellence of the production throughout its tour.
The Resident Director reports to the Tour Director and works in close partnership with the Producers, General Manager, Company Management, Production Stage Manager, Stage Management team, and other department leaders.

Technical Rehearsals: March 18, 2027
1st Performance: March 31, 2027
Compensation: Rehearsals: salary of $1200/week. Performance salary: $2000/week. Resident Director also receives a percentage of the Producers share of overage, per diem of $315/week, and health plan. Producer provided transportation and housing beginning with Technical Rehearsal period. No housing or per diem provided during the pre-technical rehearsal period.
The Resident Director will travel full-time with the touring production.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Uphold and maintain the artistic vision, direction, and staging established by John Tiffany and the creative team.
- Partner closely with the Tour Director, providing regular artistic updates and collaborating on cast replacements, rehearsals, performances, and production maintenance.
- Maintain the overall artistic quality and consistency of the production in collaboration with the Production Stage Manager, Stage Management team, and Movement Captain.
- Direct and integrate new company members, including principal performers, understudies, and swings.
- Conduct rehearsals, put-in rehearsals, brush-up rehearsals, understudy rehearsals, and performance maintenance sessions as required.
- Observe performances regularly, provide detailed notes, and coach performers to ensure artistic excellence and consistency.
- Attend rehearsals, production meetings, technical rehearsals, and other production-related events as required.
- Serve as a key member of the production leadership team, providing artistic guidance and consultation to the Producers, Tour Director, General Manager, and creative team.
- Supervise and maintain artistic standards for special events, media appearances, promotional performances, and press engagements related to the production.
- Foster a respectful, collaborative, and inclusive working environment across all departments and company members.
- Maintain a traditional theatrical schedule, including evenings, weekends, holidays, and travel.
- Participate in equity, diversity, inclusion, anti-harassment, and other workplace culture initiatives and trainings as scheduled by the Producer.
Required Qualifications:
- Previous directing experience, preferably as a Resident Director, Associate Director, Assistant Director, or comparable artistic leadership role on a first-class commercial production, national tour, Broadway production, West End production, or large-scale regional theater production.
- Demonstrated experience coaching actors, maintaining productions, and leading rehearsals.
- Strong understanding of actor-centered storytelling and collaborative creative processes.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with large-scale touring productions.
- Familiarity with movement-based and highly designed musical staging.
- Experience working within Equity and professional theatrical environments.
