The Production
The first-ever theatre adaptation of Suzanne Collins’ internationally acclaimed book and Lionsgate’s motion-picture, The Hunger Games: On Stage opened at Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre in Autumn 2025, adapted by multi award-winning playwright Conor McPherson and directed by Matthew Dunster.
Job Description:
We are seeking a capable and motivated Deputy Head of Lighting and Video to support the delivery of all lighting and video elements on a large-scale theatre production. Reporting to the Head of Lighting and Video, this role is crucial in ensuring the successful realisation and maintenance of the production’s technical and creative requirements.
This department will also encompass: Fire and Smoke Effects.
Key Responsibilities:
● Play a key role in the safe running and maintenance of all Lighting and Video elements of a technically complicated show
● Assist in the management of the Lighting and Video Department alongside the Head of Lighting and Video
● Deputise for the Head of Lighting and Video, as required
● Work closely and collaboratively with all departments ensuring they are well supported by the Lighting and Video Department
● Attend rehearsals, show calls, maintenance calls, get-ins, fit-ups and get-outs as required, including emergency calls in the event of equipment failure or other incident
● Carry out a show plot, including lighting, video, fire, smoke or SFX elements.
● Assist the Head of Lighting and Video in troubleshooting and maintenance of all LX elements, including LED tiles and set electrics.
● Supervise and train others in the department
Essential Criteria
● Proven and extensive experience of taking a leading role in the Lighting and Video requirements of a technically complex show
● Experience of EOS lighting control
● Experience maintaining a large scale lighting rigs, complex set electrics and video infrastructure
● Thorough working knowledge of lighting and video systems, including media servers (eg Disguise, Pixera or similar)
● Experience of maintaining a large LED tile set up
● Experience with Fire, Smoke and Haze effects, as well as special effects operation
● Comfortable working at height and in fast-paced, collaborative backstage environments
● Strong problem-solving skills and ability to troubleshoot under pressure
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
