Joseph C. Landis is a noted translator and playwright. Titles include THE GOLEM (translated from the original by H. Leivick), which was originally produced in 2001 by the Manhattan Ensemble Theatre; THE DYBBUK (from the original by S. Ansk); and GOD OF VENGEANCE (from the original by Sholem Asch). Landis is widely regarded as an expert on the Yiddish culture and language. He has written several books on the subject, including “Memoirs of the Yiddish Stage” (1984), “The Life and Times of Yiddish” (2000), “A Yiddish Omnibus” (1989), and “Who Needs Yiddish?” (1966).
